In today's entry of K Health & Beauty I will be reviewing the Etude House "Play Colour Eyes Ice Van" eyeshadow palette. I will try to give you an in-depth insight into this product and will share where to buy it from and how much it will cost. First ThoughtsLet's be honest with ourselves, what's the real reason behind our Korean beauty purchases? We buy them because they are so adorable that even if we don't end up liking the product, adding it to our collections is good enough. I like ice-cream and I like make-up so this purchase was a no brainer. The packaging is gorgeous and the overall quality of the product was surprising, the casing is quite a decent material and does not feel cheap at all. I love the design of the of the palette, you have ten colours with two small applicators and a closing lid with a mirror in the interior. If the review was based on first appearances alone it would be a 10/10 already but I didn't want to make up my mind until I tested it out. Colour Range The concept of this particular eyeshadow palette is based on an Ice cream truck, hence why all the colours are related to specific ice-cream flavours. For a themed palette I am quite impressed with the selection of colours, with both bright, shimmery tones and more darker, matte tones available, so you can utilise this palette for both day and night make-up. For those of you who can't read Korean, here is a list of the names in colour order: 1. Goddess with an Acoustic Guitar: A golden bronze colour with a shimmery base 2. Fresh Grapefruit Tea: Coral orange colour with a matte base 3. Sh! Secret: Chocolate brown colour with a slight shimmery base 4. Come With and Wind: Rose gold tones with a shimmery base 5. Strawberry Jubilee: Deep strawberry pink colour with a matte base 6. Rose Tea: Rose pink tones with a matte base 7. Vanilla Bong Bong: Creamy beige colour with a matte base 8. Shooting Mint: Pastel mint green colour with shimmery base 9. Mom is an Earthian: Dark coffee brown with a matte base 10. Finish a Marathon: Deep burgundy colour with a slight shimmery base Swatch TestWith eyeshadows, the colour on the palette is not necessarily the colour that will appear on your skin which is why it's important to do a swatch test. I would say I have a yellow-olive skin tone and brighter colours have to be quite pigmented to show up on my skin. With these colours you can really see the shimmery or matte base, with even 'Shooting Mint' the palest colour of the ten, being distinguished by the shimmer. I only have a few eyeshadow palettes but this one has the best base range by far, with most having mainly matte bases with one or two shimmery based and vice versa. Because I have quite tanned skin, especially in the summer time, these colours may show up better on more fairer or translucent skin, so don't be swayed if you don't think these are not pigmented enough. Testing it outThe most important part of buying beauty products is seeing how they personally look and feel on your skin and I wanted to share with you my experiences in application. I have been really busy at work this week so I don't have make-up looks of every colour but have ones of what I think would be the most popular. I have tried to incorporate as many colours into one look as I can, to show you how blendable these shades are with each other. Test 1:I'm a firm believer in wearing just the right amount of make-up to 'enhance' your facial features not chance them. I don't really contour and highlight to change my face shape, I think of it like this, the universe gave me this face and I want to keep it looking that way. This is one of my simple day looks, I am using 'Vanilla Bong Bong' as a light base for my eyes and then gently patting in 'Goddess with an Acoustic guitar' around the outer corner and upper crease of my eye. These shadows are fantastic to blend and I found I was able to smooth away any harsh lines with no trouble. The applicator provided is also pretty handy and was great to use. Test 2:Sorry everyone this is a really awful picture, I forgot to take photos in the morning so this is a quick one I took before removing the make-up. As you can see the colour has held up really well for an all day use. In this look I have used 'Fresh Grapefruit Tea' all over my lid and 'Rose Tea' on the lower lid/eye line. This combination wasn't something that I would normally go for but after wearing it I think it's really cute for a going out 'day' look. Test 3:Please ignore my ratchet hair, I was getting ready to go out haha! This final look is something a little heavier (well for me personally) for going out at night or to any sort of event. I'm also wearing the Kylie Jenner lip kit, which I just found out I hate (can do a review on that later). Once again I am using 'Vanilla Bong Bong' as a base over my whole lid and 'Finish a Marathon' over the centre of my eyelid. The darker shade that I have used to blend throughout my crease and on the outer corner of my eye is 'Mom is an Earthian'. I found this dark brown shade paired well with the burgundy and together had a slight shimmer. In the inner corner of my eyes I have used a combination of 'Shooting Mint' and 'Come with and wind' to highlight my eyes. This look was extremely easy and I will definitely wear it again! Final ThoughtsWhen I initially purchased this product I wasn't too blown away with the colour choices available and thought this would be something I would put in the drawer and never use again. But after testing out the shades and seeing how amazingly well they blend and show onto my skin and I'll admit I have been proven wrong. What began as an impulse buy in online shopping actually turned out to be a valuable purchase as I will probably use this palette everyday with all my make-up looks. In order to rate this product I have split it into five categories. Firstly the packaging, how was the quality and how did it look. Secondly the colour pay-off, did the product have enough pigmentation to show through. Third the durability, did it last all day or just for five minutes. Fourth the feels, how did it feel on my skin, did it irritate and lastly the price, was it worth the money or not. Packaging: 4/5 The packaging was gorgeous and it was fundamentally influenced me to make the purchase. The quality of the plastic case is surprisingly high quality. Colour Pay-off: 5/5 The colour pay-off was great and showed up exceptionally well on my olive toned skin. Durability: 5/5 As shown in one of my photos this product is able to stay on all day if used in conjunction with an eye primer or base. The Feels: 4/5 These eyeshadows didn't seem to irritate the sensitive skin around my eyes and was easy enough to remove. Price: 3/5 Although I was happy to pay the price I did, I still think this palette isn't worth more than $20 AUD.
