When you think of the word 'make-up', what is the first thing that comes to mind? Lipstick. Lip make-up is an extremely important part of the beauty routine, with a wide variety of looks to suit every occasion. In Australia, American style lip trends are dominating the beauty market with Celebrities such as Kylie Jenner releasing popular lip products. Amongst all the lip make-up that I see around me in Australia, I wanted to take this chance to introduce South Korean lip make-up and how it compares to American lip make-up. Firstly, I'll give you a brief low down on the American Lip Trends. American or Western lip trends are quite diverse but the basis of it all is a completely filled and lined lip with a matte or semi-matte finish. The colour choice is completely up to the wearer with any colour from blacks to blues acceptable and popular to wear. The aim of American lip make-up is to make your lips looks fuller and plump, matte finishes in general are fantastic for achieving this. Similar to the eyebrow trends, Korean lip trends are on the complete other end of the spectrum. The primary lip trend in Korea is the "Gradient Effect". The goal of this trend is to outline and focus on the inner areas of your lips, making your lips look more petite and soft. The colour selection in Korean lip make-up is not as bold as it's American counterpart, with most people choosing variations of basic colours (Reds, Pinks and Oranges). Orange and Coral shades are becoming increasingly popular amongst the Korean beauty community. To achiecve the American Lip look, most turn to matte lipsticks or glosses. The Kylie Jenner Lip Kits are undoubtedly the most popular choice and are highly raved about due to their long wear and colour selection. Other brands such as NYX and Colourpop have also released their own range of matte lip products. In the end it really is a matter of personal opinion, some prefer Kylie and other NYX or Colourpop. In Australia Kylie and Colourpop products are quite difficult to obtain, with your only option being online shopping from America and with the current exchange rate being so low, it can cost you a fortune. Recently Priceline (a popular pharmaceutical chain in Australia) has began stocking NYX products, and all the lip products are readily available. If you want to achieve "Gradient Effect" lips then it's all about Lip Tints. I've talked about Korean lip tints in a couple of my other blogs and as stated they are the number one choice of lip products in Korea. Tinting you lips instead of applying lipstick or gloss is a more effective way of achieving gradient lips as the inner areas of your lips are most likely to hold the product. A crucial step in getting this look is to use concealer, foundation or bb cream to conceal your natural lip colour thus making the tint colour stand out. There are a variety of different lip tints from a range of companies but unfortunately the colour selection lacks variety. Sorry for the delay in new blog entries :( I've been spending more time creating youtube videos I have neglected my blog for a while. I will continue to research and write interesting topics for you guys! Until Next time, stay healthy & beautiful~ J.Jade
